Privacy Policy

SpeakUp by Blackpebble Ltd — Effective 3 April 2026

SpeakUp helps you improve your speaking and communication skills by recording and analysing your conversations. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and how you can control it.

What data we collect

Account information. When you sign in with Apple, we receive your Apple User ID and email address (which may be an Apple relay address if you choose to hide your real email). These are used solely for authentication.

Profile and quiz responses. During onboarding, we collect your name, age range, gender, and responses to behavioural questions. This data is stored locally on your device and is not sent to our servers.

Voice recordings. When you record a session, the audio file is uploaded to our servers for processing. We use it to generate a transcript and analyse your communication style.

Transcripts and analysis. We generate transcripts from your recordings and produce scores for assertiveness, clarity, and filler word usage. These are returned to the app and stored locally on your device.

Calendar events. With your permission, the app reads your device calendar to suggest session names. Calendar data is read locally and is never uploaded to any server.

Push notification token. We collect your Apple Push Notification service (APNs) device token so we can notify you when your session analysis is ready.

How we use your data

To authenticate your account via Sign in with Apple
To process your voice recordings and generate communication feedback
To match your voice across sessions using a voiceprint derived from your recordings
To send you push notifications when your analysis is complete
To suggest session names based on your calendar events (on-device only)

We do not use your data for advertising, marketing, or profiling. We do not sell your data to anyone.

How your data is stored

On your device. Your profile, quiz responses, session metadata, and analysis results are stored locally using standard iOS storage. Authentication tokens are stored in the iOS Keychain.

On our servers. Voice recordings, transcripts, voiceprints, and analysis data are stored on Google Cloud Platform infrastructure in the us-central1 region. Specifically:

Audio files and voiceprints are stored in Google Cloud Storage
Server-side processing runs on Google Cloud Run
Session and account data are stored in a managed PostgreSQL database

Third-party services

We use the following third-party services to operate SpeakUp:

Google Cloud Platform (Cloud Run, Cloud Storage, Cloud SQL) — for server-side processing and storage of recordings, transcripts, and analysis data. Google's privacy policy is available at policies.google.com/privacy.
Apple Push Notification service — to deliver notifications to your device.

We do not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. We do not use cookies or web tracking technologies.

Data retention and deletion

We retain your server-side data (recordings, transcripts, voiceprints, and analysis) for as long as your account exists.

You can delete individual sessions from within the app, which removes them from your device. You can also delete your entire account from Settings, which permanently removes all associated data from both your device and our servers, including recordings, transcripts, voiceprints, and analysis results.

Children's privacy

SpeakUp is intended for users aged 14 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 14. If you believe a child under 14 has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you through the app or by other appropriate means. The effective date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was last revised.
